Help in two areas is needed this year:
. . . how many times have we heard that. Christmas, to Christians, is the celebration of Jesus of Nazareth’s birth. Are you aware that since 1870, December 25th has been a federal holiday in the United States? People around the world have been observing Christmas with traditions and practices that have been religious and secular; exchanging gifts, decorating Christmas trees, attending church, sharing meals with family & friends, waiting for Santa Claus and most precious of all – celebrating Christ’s birth.
Our emphasis for the November boxes (November 9th ) is to give our military overseas the true meaning of Christmas – a Savior born to give each of us eternal life! We are focusing on two items for November: 1) Christmas cards and 2) Delicious Pumpkin items 1) Special request to all you who enjoy making homemade cards! We are looking for additional Christmas cards to be made, so we can have ATOH volunteers and Crossroads community sign them. We will then include them in the December boxes so we do need them by November. Please use the normal cardstock size – only fold them in half so we have lots of area for people to sign them inside. You do not need to provide envelopes as they will be put in the boxes. We would like to get around 64 to 70 cards so we have 3-4 per box. 2) Pumpkin items to fill the boxes with. We have always sent Pumpkin Bread, but this year, Helen has added some NEW and delicious pumpkin treat recipes on our web-site. Please go to the web-site and pick a recipe, bake it and bring it to be packaged for someone far away from home for Christmas. These will be put in the NOVEMBER boxes Go to https://www.atouchofhome.us/pumpkin-bread-recipe.html Thank you so much - we want to make Christmas memorable for those so far away from home. Packing for our Troops: Our regular Packing Day is next week-end, September 14th starting at 9:30 a.m. Hope to see many of you there. Currently 12 – 13 on list.
Annual Fundraiser – IT’S THIS MONTH and we could use your help: September 28thand 29th – Our Annual fundraiser to replenish our funds. This year, we are setting up in the parking lot of Crossroads Church; 80th & Jamaica; Cottage Grove. It’s going to be fun, as we will have plenty of room for people to park their cars, spend some time and look back over the last 10 years. We will be serving Bonngard’s meats and they are excited to help us out. Many of you know we have a lot of road construction at Keats Avenue and 70th Street, so this is a way we can help one of our local businesses maintain some business. You can sign up on the web-site http://www.atouchofhome.us/2013-fund-raiser.html (click on volunteer needs) or if you would like, you can sign up on the day of packing 9-14. Add to the list: If you have the name of a military person, overseas, remember you can add their name on the web-site also. http://www.atouchofhome.us/add-an-overseas-soldier.html Prayer Needed: Please remember and pray for our men and women in the military. We have uncertain days ahead of us with the unrest in Syria and the Middle East. All those in government could also use some prayers for wise decisions to be made. Thanks again and if you have friends who would like to help out – be sure you contact them. |

The South Washington County Telecommunications Commission visited our packing day and shot some footage of our team packing on July 14th.
There are two "mistakes" that we wanted to note a correction for:
1) to contact Linda via email, the correct email address is: linda@atouchofhome.us (not .com)
2) The dates of the Von Hanson's BBQ are August 4th and 5th -- not 5th and 6th!
